Home Lifting Companies - Be Very Careful

If you have lived in the Greater New Orleans area for the past 3-5 years, you have undoubtedly seen scores of advertisements for home lifting companies in New Orleans. This is because many of these companies have been given grants by the Louisiana Hazard Mitigation Program to raise flood-prone homes in the Southeastern Louisiana area. Many of these companies include: Orleans Shoring, Coastal Shoring, Roubion Shoring, Abry Brothers, Inc., Cable Lock Foundation Repair, Patterson Shoring, Elevations Shoring, L.L.C., and many others. The work involved in these projects includes basically tunneling under the home, implementing hydraulic pumps to lift the entire foundation, and the construction of a new foundation which lifts the home higher than before. This is supposed to reduce the risk of flooding homes, and hopefully lower flood insurance premiums and homeowner’s insurance premiums for people.

Many of these projects have gone as planned. One can see many different style lift-jobs throughout New Orleans, Metairie, Kenner, Lakeview, Gentilly, Harahan, and other areas. Some include driveways which lift onto an angle into the home (I don’t personally like these). However, some jobs have not gone as planned. There are now reports of some homes being structurally damaged during the home raising jobs. Some of these damages include separation of masonry, cracks in the foundation, leveling problems, elevation problems, cracks in interior and exterior walls, separation of joists in the attic and in other load-bearing members, collapsing of the home, and other aesthetic problems which now make the home less valuable and pretty then before.

The above type of damages can really cause a panic in your life. Your home will probably be worth much less and have diminution in value. You may be embarrassed about the final condition of the home; and you are probably facing tens of thousands of dollars in repair costs to fully make your home structurally-sound.

Solution – Hopefully, if this happened to you, you chose a home lifting contractor with proper licences, insurance coverage, and maybe a bond. If they presented you with a certificate of insurance prior to the home raising job, you need to hold onto it. This may be your ticket to fix this situation. I can help you do this, and obtain the full amount of repair costs and other damages you will be entitled due to the ruin of your home.
